Massage Therapy
A typical treatment will begin with a brief orthopedic assessment of the muscles and joints of your body, in order to investigate any existing pathologies, and to allow the therapist to determine the most appropriate treatment for your specific needs.
You will be professionally draped for the duration of your treatment, and you may give feedback at any time throughout.
The therapist will typically begin with mild compressions and fascial techniques to treat the connective tissues of the body, proceeding to muscle and tendon release work. Light, soothing techniques will follow, promoting relaxation and increasing circulation. Deeper tissue work is used to treat specific muscles and structures, while gentle mobilization of the joints may be used to increase movement and nourishment of the joints.
The treatment will often conclude with gentle techniques, leaving you relaxed and refreshed.

Myofascial Cupping
Myofascial Cupping is a modern version of a traditional therapy. It targets the musculoskeletal system, using one or more plastic cups in which vacuum suction is induced by a hand held pump. The vacuum “draws” the soft tissue perpendicular to the skin, providing a tensile force, which can be left in one site for a prolonged period or moved along the tissue. Cups will typically be left on for up to 10 minutes depending on the client’s reaction and sensitivity, and are cleaned after every use. The cups can also be moved around by the therapist with the rim of the cup creating a compression pressure as well. Cupping should be pain free and bruising should be avoided or be kept to a minimum; however, in areas of dysfunction some bruising is possible, which typically disappears within several days.

RMT's providing Cupping: Carl Berry and Kaity Weichel have taken training in these advanced techniques and offer them as part of their treatment approach. They are both certified in Introduction to IASTM, and Integrated Massage Therapy: IASTM & Myofascial Cupping for Treatment of Sports Injuries. Myofascial Cupping may be utilized as part of either a Massage Therapy or Acupuncture treatment, with specific consent of the patient. We do NOT charge extra fees for Cupping.
Acupuncture
Initial treatments will typically last 45 - 60 Minutes. This is to allow enough time to conduct a thorough assessment in order to investigate any existing pathologies, and to allow the therapist to determine the most suitable treatment for your specific condition. Please bring a comfortable pair of shorts and a tank top to your appointment. Subsequent treatments will generally last a total of 45 Minutes. Needles may be left in from 15 - 30 minutes, depending on your treatment needs. PENS (Percutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) in the form of electrical current may be used to increase the effect of your Acupuncture treatment, or to achieve specific results.
TENS
If you cannot tolerate Acupuncture needles, or if Acupuncture is contraindicated for your condition or the site of your injury, you can still benefit from this alternative. TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) is similar to PENS (see above): electrode patches are placed on specific sites such as Acupuncture points, motor points, musculotendinous junctions, ligaments, etc. Specific frequencies of electrical stimulus are used to release muscle spasms, improve motor recruitment in weakened muscles, and increase postural support of lax or fixated joints. Please note, however, that TENS does not cross skin and muscle barriers as effectively as PENS, so Acupuncture is preferable when possible for greater treatment results.

Massage Therapy & Acupuncture Combination
If you are a prior massage therapy client, it is recommended that you choose a combination treatment time that is 15 minutes longer than the massage-only treatments that you are used to. Treatment time will be divided between the two therapies, at the discretion of your therapist, who will choose a modality ratio and order that is suited to your specific needs.
